Forgetful? Here’s How Home Automation Can Help

HOME AUTOMATION

Let’s be honest, we’re all forgetful. In fact, one study found that the average person forgets 4 things every day. So, what’s a person to do? Well, how about a home automation system, which can:

  • Remind you of things you forgot
  • Automatically schedule tasks that you usually forget
  • Eliminate the need for something you forget all the time

Let us show you how…

Get reminders and alerts of forgotten tasks

With a home automation system, you can set up alerts for things you forget to do, such as:

  • Locking your home up at night
  • Arming your security system
  • Closing the garage door

To do this, you:

  1. Set up a trigger
  2. Select the dates/times you want this alert
  3. Choose who the system should alert

For example, if you find that you forget to arm your home security system when you leave for work in the morning, you can choose that as the trigger—an unarmed security system.

Then, since you don’t want to be notified every time the security system is left unarmed (like on weekends when you’re home), you select the date and times when the alarm should be armed. In our example, that’s when you’re at work so let’s say 8 am to 5 pm.

Then you select the user you want to notify (yourself). Now, during the times you selected, the home automation system will check to see if the security system is armed. And if it isn’t, you’ll get an alert.

From there, all you have to do is use your phone to arm the security system.

Automate tasks you always forget

An automated task works like a reminder or alert on steroids. But instead of just reminding you of a task, it will actually take care of it for you.

For example, if you are tired of making sure all your doors and windows are locked before going to bed every night, you can have your smart security system take care of it for you.

You can just hit a single button that tells your home automation system you’re going to bed and it will:

  • Arm your security system
  • Shut off the lights in your home
  • Lock all your doors

You can also use a home automation system to take care of your home theater for you. Rather than trying to remember the correct 27-step process for turning on all your components, a home automation system can be programmed to take care of it all for you.

Eliminating oft-forgotten items

The last way a home automation system can help you stop forgetting is by eliminating something you forget all the time: your keys.

With a home automation system, you can forget your keys and just use an app on your smartphone to get into and out of your home.

And it’s not just your personal home key that you can forget about. You can also stop worrying about spare keys for guests or other people who have access to your home (like cleaners).

A home automation system lets you give access to certain people at certain times of day only and for a limited time. And you can revoke access to your home just as easily. (Try doing that with keys.)
